Dorothea Cobb the daughter of Albert and Sadie (Rowbotham) Cobb was born on July 2, 1921 near De Smet, South Dakota. She attended a rural school for 8 years then went to high school in De Smet, South Dakota until midway through her junior year, she moved with her parents to Gaza, Iowa and completed her high school years at Gaza High School, graduating in 1939. She borrowed $800 to get a two-year teaching certificate from P.E.O. in Paullina. She taught one year in a rural school and four years in Paullina. She next worked for a year in social services in O’Brien County and then moved to West Bend, Wisconsin, where she worked for 20 years in accounts payable for West Bend Aluminum Company. Then worked for Montgomery Ward as a Catalogue Store Manager in West Bend, Fond du Lac and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She came back to Primghar and opened a Lady’s Ready to Wear Store which closed after four years. She then worked for the Iowa Liquor Department until she retired.
During the years she drove for patients with cancer, mostly in Archer, Primghar and Sutherland. She became interested in battered women while going to Los Cruces, New Mexico while wintering for 14 years. She continued to support this group in Iowa.
Family was very important to Dorothea, cousins in the first generation and later years the second generation. She was a member of the United Church of Primghar since 1942 and a 50-year member of Eastern Star.
Left to cherish Dorothea’s memory is her cousins, other relatives and friends.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Alice Ruth Cobb in infancy and Hallie Cobb.

God saw she was getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around her,
And whispered, “Come with Me.”

With tearful eyes, we watched her suffer,
And saw her fade away.
Although we loved her dearly,
We could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
God only takes the best.
