ROBERT G. BAXTER

     Robert G. Baxter, the son of Gordon and Lula (Evans) Baxter was born February 21, 1927 in Battle Creek, Iowa. He moved with his family to a farm near Archer, Iowa where he received his education graduating from Archer High School in 1944. He served his country in the United States Navy. Last year he went on the Honor Flight to the W.W. II Monument in Washington, D.C.. On July 13, 1968, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Cooper at the First Christian Church in Spencer. After their marriage the couple settled on the family farm near Archer where he farmed for many years. The couple moved into Primghar in 1992 and Bob retired from farming in 1994. In his retirement years he helped many children by being a hospital “Dad” thru the Abu Bekr Shrine in Sioux City, by being a van driver to the Shrine Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.

     Bob passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City reaching the age of 84 years, 7 months and 29 days.

     He was a member of the Archer Methodist Church, Onyx Masonic Lodge of Sanborn, Scottish Rite and the Abu Bekr Shrine both in Sioux City, Russell West American Legion of Paullina and the Eagles Club in Sheldon. He enjoyed being a Shrine “Dad”, spending time at Lake Okoboji and golfing.

     Bob is survived by his wife, Cindy of Primghar; three children, Mike Baxter of Muscatine, Iowa; Michelle Baxter Welle of Milford and Kevin and his wife, Lisa Baxter of Lost Nation, Iowa; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Edmond, Lindsay and Jack; four brothers, Gail Baxter of Grissley Flats, California; Bruce Baxter of Van Horn, Iowa; Lowell Baxter of Fort Worth, Texas and Kenneth Baxter of Pistol River, Oregon; also other relatives and many friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Lula Baxter.
