David Glen Ewoldt, son of Roy (deceased) and Marilyn (Hedin) Ewoldt was born October 22, 1964 in Cherokee, Iowa. Two sisters, Laurie and Holli, and one brother, Bill welcomed him home. He was educated in the Paullina schools, excelling in music, and graduated from high school May, 1983. David attended Iowa State College at Ames, Iowa, majoring in Business Administration and Telecommunicate Arts. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, honorary Arts fraternity. He also continued an interest in food preparation, begun as a young boy-fixing Sunday omelets for Mom and Dad and working for Jack and Kay Grosvenor at the Martin House. In college, Dave worked for Minsky’s Pizza in Nevada, Iowa and continued after college, eventually becoming the restaurant’s manager.

In 2000, Dave left Iowa, and moved to St. Louis, Mo. He was employed by a commercial cleaning business until 2009. In March, 2010, he began classes at L’ Ecole

Culinaire in St. Louis and in August, 2011, graduated with high honors and as the class ambassador. A trip to Italy with his classmates, leaving November 9, and a job as a chef was in the future. Unfortunately, health complications arose and he died November 3, 2011 in St. Louis reaching the age of 47 years and 11 days.

David was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn of Paullina; sister, Holli Safley and her husband, Bill of Peterson, Iowa; AFS brother, Jan Henry Melhus, brother-in-law, Dick Keyser of Houston, Texas; Aunt, JoAnn and Uncle, James Ewoldt; nieces, Dr. Allison Keyser, Kristen Meinzer, Melissa Ewoldt and Erin Safley; and nephews, Roy W. Ewoldt, Matthew Safley and Derek Meinzer; Vernon Jackson and his family; other cousins and friends; L’Ecole Culinaire classmates, and rescue dog Boston Terrier, Izzy.
